Leeward Islands are an archipelago comprising 16 islands in the southern Caribbean, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. Only three of the 16 islands are sovereign nations: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, and St. Kitts & Nevis. The other islands, which include Puerto Rico and St. Martin, are dependent on other countries.
The name "Leeward" is a reference to the fact that the string of islands is more sheltered from trade winds than its southern neighbours, the Windward Islands. Every year, millions of tourists flock to Leeward Islands to laze on beautiful white-sand beaches, dive in sparkling turquoise waters, and enjoy some of the best watersports in the whole of the Caribbean.
There is a vast number of hotels dotted throughout Leeward islands, ranging from basic accommodations with limited services and amenities to posh hotels with palatial suites that offer all of the services that you would expect from luxury hotels in other parts of the world.
