Getting the perfect hotel at a great price is something we all strive for. As with all travel, you’re likely to find a good price on a hotel in Nelson if you book far enough in advance, but a lot of hotels also offer great last minute deals in Nelson. When there are beds left to fill, prices are often cut to attract last-minute deal hunters and spontaneous travellers who have the freedom and ability to visit Nelson at the last-minute. You might not get your first choice of hotels in Nelson, but you are likely to get more for your money. We don’t recommend you wait until the last-minute during peak seasons and when there are events taking place in Nelson though, as it is likely that accommodation will fill up early – and you don’t want to be left without a bed!
When visiting Nelson, there is plenty to explore – and finding a hotel near the main attractions will make this even easier. We recommend checking out hotels near Trafalgar Park, Founders Park and Queen's Gardens, or using our map feature to find hotels near your specific points of interest.
Depending on your budget, length of stay and other factors, you might want to find an apartment or hostel in Nelson instead of a hotel. With the Skyscanner hotel search, you can set your filters by accommodation type to find your perfect match. On the flipside, you might not want to exclude hotels in Nelson altogether – you could get a great deal and enjoy a visit with a little more luxury!
My favorite town in the South Island! Stayed here during winter. It rained a lot but at least its still warmer compared to the other towns in the S.I.
I had built Nelson up in my mind as some kind of idyllic, relaxed beach town long before I got there - which it's not. There's no beach at all and while there are some wonderful backpackers around, there is little to do in Nelson itself - everything decent is half an hour to an hour away. There are probably many great things about Nelson, but I never could forgive it for not being what I'd anticipated (though this is my own fault!) That said, there are some great easy walks along the river
Great place to visit in Northern South Island region. Close to Able Tasman Park. The region boasts great wineries with wonderful back roads.
I spent a few days in Nelson. It is a cute little town with a bit of an international backpacker scene for all the travelers making their way around the South Island. I stopped here primarily to check out the World of Wearable Art Museum.
