We took the train up to this northernmost town and enjoyed some great food and drinks before we started moseying south. I really wanted to see the giant, but it was being renovated and was under scaffolding. Guess I will just have to go back!

Monterosso is one of the biggest and most touristy of the five towns in Cinque Terre, but we weren't particularly bothered by the crowds. The beach was amazing, despite the rocks, and we loved just walking around the town with gelato. All the villages are beautiful, but Monterosso is the place to go if you are seeking beach time and sunshine.

The town is really touristy but it's so beautiful you can see why. It reminded me a bit of Sorrento.

If you look closely you can see Vernazza. Great sand beach in monterosso, and all free outside of high season (and not at all crowded)
