beautiful place, nice town, some guesthouses, good bar, transport to rest Honduras takes some time nearly only by small bus
Over shadowed by Tikal to the north, they are very impressive ruins, which you can have more of less to yourself. It is also obvious walking around them, that a good portion of them are still underground, so there might be more to come. They are surrounded by beautiful jungle too.
The Ruins here are awesome. You can climb all over them and go through an underground passage through one of the temples. The parrots here are so used to tourists here, you can get super close to snap a photo without one flying away!
We had a 6 hour lay-over in this town so we didn't make it to the ruins, but it is a sleepy little Honduran town without much going on. Skip it, if you can. I hear the ruins are a less impressive version of Tikal, but still worth seeing if you have a serious interest in Mayan history.
