Hotels in Toulouse

Dreamy and enchanting, Toulouse is nestled between the Canal du Midi and a bend in the Garonne river in France's southern Occitanie region. Formerly an ancient Roman settlement, its terra-cotta buildings and coral-colored churches have earned it an interesting nickname: La Ville Rose (the pink city). Despite its ancient origins, Toulouse is a modern and vibrant city that never fails to impress with an active nightlife, lively food markets, and world-class museums.

Tourism in Toulouse, France

Toulouse is home to one of the largest universities in France and a huge student population. As a result, it's a very affordable city to explore! Many shops, restaurants, and hotels cater to budget-conscious travelers.

The city centre is beautifully preserved and easy to navigate by foot. Head to the Toulouse Tourist Office, located in the back of city hall, to take part in a guided tour of the city or to get information about some of the city's hidden gems. A short walking tour of the old town will take you past the Toulouse Cathedral, the Basilica of Saint Sernin, and the Capitole town hall and theatre. You can even take a boat tour down the canal or Garonne river to see the city in all of its rose-tinted glory!

Another must-see for travelers with kids is the Space City aeronautical science museum. AirBus has a factory just outside the city (which employs almost 10% of the city's population!) which manages the museum. You can also take a tour of the factory itself in either French of English, but spots fill up quickly. Be sure to book ahead of time with the Airbus Visit touring company!
