I spent 2 weeks in Medellín in August. Medellín has the weather that everyone always dreams of. It never really varies, it's never too hot and it's definitely never cold. When it rains, it pours for a couple hours and then clears up. The metro and metro cable system is amazing and takes you anywhere you need to be. The buses aren't so bad either, although I never quite figured out the system. There aren't an abundance of things to do, but there are enough things to keep it interesting for a little while. Don't expect a huge amount of discussion about the history of the country - but do your own research beforehand. Parts of the city have drastically changed over the past few years and you might be surprised to see how much modern architecture there is and how many North American companies have swarmed there.

I lived in Medellin for 5 months and I can't wait to return. It is one of my favorite cities in the world. Not only is it great for anyone on a budget I also felt very safe there as a solo female traveler. If you want to learn Spanish you won't find a better place to learn than here. It's also a really great place to learn to Salsa or Bachata.

Medellín is Colombia’s second largest city after Bogotá and a must-see for any visitor to Colombia. Once the center of the drug trade, Medellín has cleaned up its image to become the capitol of cool, with amazing restaurants, museums and cultural attractions at every corner. Not to mention its subway system is one of the cleanest and most efficient forms of public transportation in all of South America. The fantastic climate year-round has given the city its nickname of ‘City of Eternal Spring.’
