Introduction to Cranbrook

Cranbrook, British Columbia, with a population of about 29,000, is on the small side. Yet this scenic town is the heart of the Kootenay Region, tucked away in the Rocky Mountain's Trench Valley. Why not use Skyscanner's online search engine to find the best hotel, air and car rates for your visit? Then get ready to enjoy modern creature comforts while experiencing Canada's great outdoors.

Things to Do in Cranbrook

Cranbrook's five golf courses entice visitors from far and wide. Three of the most popular of the courses are the St. Eugene Golf Course, Wildstone Golf Course and Shadow Mountain, all with eye-popping views from nearly every tee. St. Eugene also has a hotel and casino on site. All are known for their sometimes unusual water hazards, such as a bear or moose spending time on the greens.

Nature lovers, head for Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park, just outside of town. Relax on the small beach, swim, paddle a kayak or canoe or take to one of the hiking and biking trails. Try your luck at catching a rainbow trout or large-mouth bass. You'll need a BC fishing license. Open year-round for day-use.

Railroad buffs, explore the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel, complete with indoor displays and an interactive model railway. Restored historic rail cars are also onsite. Find artwork and gifts made by locals at the Cranbrook Arts Museum and Gift Shop. Take home a true regional souvenir.

Getting To and Around Cranbrook

The Canadian Rockies International Airport (YCX) is only 14 kilometres from the Cranbrook city centre. Air Canada and Pacific Coastal Airlines are the main carriers, with most flights coming from Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna and Calgary. The single terminal facility is easy to navigate and offers rental car desks near baggage claim. This is a scenic, mountainous area with attractions pretty spread out so that car is usually your best option. If you just want a ride into town, take The Airporter, a shuttle offering one way trips for $20.00 CAD per person, or grab a taxi. Some hotels offer their own shuttle services for guests, either complimentary or at low cost.
