Cheap Flights to Wales

Wales is often thought to be intertwined with England, but the country has its own distinct culture, with Celtic art, literature, and folklore. Though English is one of the official languages, Welsh is spoken by about a quarter of the population. Wales is also known as "the land of song", with yearly music festivals drawing thousands of tourists per year. If you're interested in exploring this culturally significant country, enter your travel dates into Skyscanner's flight search tool. Skyscanner will search for any available flight routes between your starting route and Wales' two commercial airports to find the best and cheapest flights for your trip.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Wales

If you're flying to Wales from a city with a lot of sunshine hours, be prepared for a very different type of weather. As one of the rainiest countries in Europe, it's highly likely that you will experience cloudy, wet weather, no matter when you choose to visit. The late fall and winter months are definitely the months with the least amount of sunshine and the most precipitation. However, since temperatures are usually above freezing, there is rarely snow. Most tourists choose to visit between May and August as the weather is warmest and you'll have the best chance for sunshine.

Airport and Airline Options in Wales

Air transportation into Wales is handled primarily by Cardiff Airport (CWL), the largest and busiest airport in the country. Cardiff Airport is located close to the village of Rhoose, near the Bristol Channel. The airport consists of one passenger terminal and serves over 1.3 million passengers per year.

CWL is served by about a dozen different airlines, including Ryanair, Qatar Airways, and KLM. Flybe and TUI are the airlines offering the most flight routes. Destinations offered are mostly large European cities like Berlin, Milan, and Paris. Since there are no direct flight paths between Canada and Cardiff Airport, you will likely have a layover in one of those cities.

Though there is one other airport in Wales, it offers very limited passenger services. From Anglesey Airport (VLY), you can only fly to Cardiff Airport. Flybe (operated by Eastern Airways) offers twice daily service between the two airports. While Cardiff Airport is located near the most southern point of the country, Anglesey Airport is located on the Isle of Anglesey in north Wales. By car, the drive between these two spots takes almost five hours. As flights between the two places take less than an hour, it's very convenient for locals and for tourists to have this air link.

What to See and Do in Wales

Though Cardiff Airport is closest to the village of Rhoose, it is also only about 16 km from Cardiff, the capital and most populous city in Wales. Cardiff is home to many of the country's most popular tourist attractions, including St Fagans National Museum of History. The museum consists of over forty exhibits based on historical buildings, including a blacksmith forge, a schoolhouse, and a flour mill. The museum is the best place to learn about the Welsh culture.

If you take a trip up to the Isle of Anglesey, you will experience some of the country's most incredible views and natural landscapes. Newborough Beach is the site of many Welsh legends and consists of a stunning beach, a forested area, and some historical ruins. The water is clear and shallow, making it a great spot for families to spend the afternoon.
