Best Time to Book a Flight to Tajikistan

In general, Tajikistan experiences cold winters and hot summers. However, as the country is rocky and mountainous, specific weather conditions vary greatly depending on the city's altitude. The city's capital city, Dushanbe, is shielded by mountains and therefore does not experience extreme cold in the winters. The city does see a lot of precipitation year round though. Up in the mountains, the weather will be colder and you will see more snowfall.

In general, the best weather in Tajikistan can be found in the spring, between March and May, or in the fall, between September and October. If you can't decide on the right time to fly to Tajikistan, use Skyscanner's Cheapest Month Search Tool to find the month with the lowest airfare rates.

Tajikistan Airport and Airline Options

For a relatively small country, Tajikistan has a surprising amount of airport options available, with 26 airports in total. The largest and busiest airport in the country is Dushanbe International Airport (DYU), located in the country's capital city. Somon Air is the airport's major airline. Somon Air flies to many domestic locations and also stops in cities like Dubai, Frankfurt, and St. Petersburg. Tajik Air, the national airline of Tajikistan, also operates out of Dushanbe Airport.

Khujand International Airport (LBD) is the next busiest airport in Tajikistan. It is located in the country's second-busiest city, Khujand. Somon Air is also the main airline for this airport. Tajik Air and Ural Airlines are other key airlines. Airlines at this airport fly mostly to domestic locations and to locations within Russia.

Kulyab Airport (TJU) and Qurghonteppa International Airport (KQT) are two other popular airports in the country. However, both airports only fly to and from Domodedovo International Airport (DME) in Moscow.

Arriving at the Airport

Dushanbe Airport consists of one recently renovated passenger terminal with guest amenities like small cafés. Free Wi-Fi is also available. The airport is very close to the city centre, at about 5 km away. A taxi ride will take about 15 minutes and cost about $20 CAD.

Taxis are also available at Khujand Airport. It will take about a half hour to get to the Khujand city centre from LBD. All taxi fares are negotiated in advance with the individual driver. Marshrutka mini busses are also available at the airport and are inexpensive but can be crowded.
