Best Time to Book a Flight to Hamburg
The warmest months of the year in Hamburg are June, July, and August. While the summer is a nice time to visit the city, you will have high humidity and a high chance of precipitation to contend with. Because of this, the spring and fall are generally the most popular times to visit Hamburg. From December to February, the temperatures are usually below freezing with the possibility of snowfall. These are generally the cheapest months to fly as most tourists would rather avoid the cold.

Arriving at the Airport
Hamburg Airport is made up of two terminals. The terminals are split by airline, with Oneworld and SkyTeam partner airlines in Terminal 1 and Star Alliance airlines in Terminal 2. Terminal 2 also houses Eurowings and Germanwings. Various construction projects to modernize the terminals are expected to be completed between 2018 and 2020.
Outside of each terminal is a taxi stand where you can choose from one of the airport's ten taxi service partners. A taxi ride into the city will generally cost you about $40 CAD. You can take your chances with the taxi meter or negotiate a fixed rate with the driver before starting your trip. If you'd like to drive yourself, you can rent a car from the service counters in Terminal 2. The S-Bahn train line also stops at the airport and is a great budget-friendly transportation option. The train will take you to the city centre in about a half hour for $5 CAD.

Hamburg Airport's two terminals are connected by the central Airport Plaza, which hosts a variety of cafés, restaurants, and shops. Throughout the airport, there are more than forty shops to choose from, with everything from clothing and cosmetics to luggage and electronics available for purchase. There is also a service counter in the Plaza with tourist information and tour bookings.
Other amenities and services available at HAM include ATM cash machines, business lounges, one currency exchange location in Terminal 1, and a hotel directly attached to the Airport Plaza. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the airport.
