Domestic flights use the north section and international carriers the southern end of the terminal. The arrival area has a dedicated mezzanine filled with brand name stores, duty-free shops, cafeterias, restaurants, banks, and ATMs. The Royal Terminal is a separate building, used for the Saudi Royal Family, government officials and visiting dignitaries. Canadians do need a visa, purchased before travel, to visit Saudi Arabia. Accepted currency is the Saudi Riyal.

Rental car desks are located outside baggage claim. Women are not allowed to drive cars, no matter the country of origin. Canada has no reciprocal driver's license agreement, so male renters must take a driving test, both written and behind the wheel. Other documents, including passport and proof of blood type, are required. Since there is little public transportation, a car is needed, but the option to book a car with driver is often the better choice. Many hotels either offer that service or can arrange it.
