  • Explore some of Edmonton, Alberta's rugged past at Fort Edmonton Park, the site of the Hudson Bay Company's original outpost during the late 1800s. Ride the 1919 Baldwin steam train, a stagecoach or enjoy a traditional tea at the restored Selkirk Hotel. Check out the 1920s era amusement park and its vintage carousel. If science is more to your taste, head for the Telus World of Science in the city's Coronation Park. If the Edmonton Oilers hockey team wins a home game, that famed street gets even livelier.
  • Calgary, Alberta, has more of a Wild West feel than its northern neighbour. That is most evident each July when the Calgary Stampede, the largest rodeo in the country, draws cowboys, and cowgirls, from places across North America and beyond. Calaway Park, an old fashioned amusement park with games, rides and a midway, is also a hit. The addition of a 3D theatre made this family-friendly venue even more popular. Calgary Zoo entertains with modern day creatures as well as a section with animatronic dinosaurs. Fort Calgary, established in 1875, gives you a taste of the town's early day. Fish Creek Provincial Park, just south of the downtown core, is a quiet place to hike or go bike riding. For a romantic night out, head for the 190-metre tall Calgary Tower. The revolving restaurant at the top offers dinner with a view.
