Mzuzu Airport is located just over a kilometre from the city. By car, the ride will take only a few minutes. Taxis are the primary means of transportation from the airport into the city or directly to your lodgings. Minibuses are sometimes available and are quite cheap but very crowded. Mzuzu Airport Facilities

As a small, one-terminal airport, Mzuzu Airport does not offer many passenger amenities. Being so close to the city, most passengers choose to head directly to Mzuzu to shop, eat, and rest after their flight. As such, the terminal is not really an attractive spot for business owners to set up shops and stalls.

A new, larger airport, to be named Mzuzu International Airport, is currently in the works to boost tourism in the area. The airport will sit about 11 km from Mzuzu and construction should be completed in 2018 or 2019. This airport will be more modern and have many more passenger amenities available.

What to See and Do in Mzuzu

Much of the Republic of Malawi's land area is taken up by Lake Malawi, one of the largest lakes in Africa. As such, many of the country's outdoor activities centre around this body of water. Tourists often spend their time basking on Mzuzu's sandy beaches next to the lake. The city is also close to Nyika National Park, the largest national park in Malawi. The park is made up of immense rock plateaus, flat plains, waterfalls, and untamed forests. Take a guided tour of the area to see incredible wildlife like zebras, lions, elephants, birds, and warthogs.
