Best Time to Book a Flight to Gaspé, Quebec

Gaspé is located on the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula in eastern Quebec. This coastal region sees much more tolerable winters than the inland parts of Canada, but there is still a big difference between temperatures in the summer and winter. No matter what time of year you visit, it's absolutely beautiful! There are plenty of ski hills to enjoy during the winter, and national parks that make for the perfect summer destination. Flights are cheaper in the late spring and early fall (April-May and September-October), but the weather is still nice enough for sightseeing!

Airlines that Fly to Gaspé Airport

YGP offers routes through Air Canada to Montreal (YUL), Quebec City (YQB), and Îles-de-la-Madeleine (YGR). If you're visiting from outside Quebec, the cheapest and fastest route will usually take you through Montreal.

What to Expect When Arriving at Gaspé Airport

Gaspé Airport is conveniently located about 9km south of Gaspé. It takes about 10 minutes to drive from the airport to the city centre. To get downtown, take Rue L'aeroport and Rue L'envoi to Boulevard de York S and turn right. Then, follow that road for about 10 minutes past the harbour and across the bridge to reach downtown Gaspé.

Alternatively, you can hire a taxi (418 368-3131) to take you downtown for about $15, or rent a car through National or Enterprise Rent-a-car. There are no public transportation options to get from the airport into town, but some hotels offer shuttle services - so don't hesitate to call ahead and ask!

The vast majority of the population in Gaspé speaks only French, so you'll want to brush up on your language skills before you leave.

Gaspé Airport Facilities

YGP is a small single-terminal airport with enough seating for 20 people and a vending machine in the waiting area. Parking and wi-fi are both free to all passengers. There is no restaurant or cafe on site, so we suggest grabbing a bite to eat before you leave for the airport. Plan on arriving at least 60 minutes before your flight so you have enough time to check in and move through security.

What to See and Do in Gaspé

The Gaspé Peninsula is rich in wildlife, historic sites, national parks, and scenic roads to explore. Known as the "Cradle of French America", the community of Gaspé is the site where Jacques Cartier first anchored and claimed the land of "New France" back in 1534. There are plenty of historic sites and lighthouses to explore, as well as a wealth of natural landscape to enjoy. Nestled between the Appalachian mountains and Gaspé Bay, this community is as picturesque as they come.

The spectacular Forillon National Park stretches for over 900km and is the perfect place for hiking, camping, crosscountry skiing, and watching wildlife. The bay is great for whale watching, and there are three gorgeous salmon rivers nearby to fish from. The town itself is also home to an excellent interpretive centre and museum if you're interested in learning about the history of the area!
