Best Time to Book a Flight to Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver is a gorgeous city on Canada's western coast, with a temperate climate and beautiful weather throughout the year. Because it's so close to the ocean, Vancouver experiences warm and mild summers, and wet, rainy winters.

If you want to maximize your chances of good weather, try booking a trip in the warmer, drier months of April through October. Flights and hotels are typically cheaper during the months of March-May and September-November, when the weather is a bit less predictable but still pleasant enough for sightseeing.

Airlines that Fly to Boundary Bay Airport

YDT is mainly used as a training facility for flight controllers and offers general aviation services for pilots throughout Canada, as well as private charter flights in and out of the Vancouver area. However, there are still regular passenger flights available!

Island Air Express offers multiple flights every day between Vancouver Island and the mainland. In fact, you can get to Victoria (YYJ) from Boundary Bay Airport in only 15 minutes, compared to a four hour ferry ride from the Marina! They also offer daily flights from Vancouver to Abbotsford (YXX) and Nanaimo (YCD).

What to Expect When Arriving at Boundary Bay Airport

YDT is conveniently located in central Delta, which is a suburb in the Metro Vancouver area. You can get to downtown Vancouver from the airport by taking highway BC-99 North for about 45 minutes, depending on traffic. You can rent a car through Thrifty Automotive, Hertz, or Aerocar at the airport, or call Delta Sunshine Taxi (604-943-1111) for a ride to your hotel. The trip to downtown Vancouver takes about 45 minutes and costs around $35, but your travel time will vary depending on where in the city you're staying.

There is also a BC Translink bus that stops at the airport - you'll find the stop directly outside the terminal entrance. This option takes quite a bit longer (anywhere from 30-90 minutes, depending on where you're going) but only costs $5. You can buy a single fare ticket for a one-way trip, or purchase a DayPass ticket for $10, which is good for unlimited trips on the Vancouver Metro for a whole day.

Boundary Bay Airport Facilities

YDT is a small but busy airport with great amenities. Wi-fi is free for all passengers, and there are plenty of charging stations available for all of your devices. The Skyhawk Restaurant is located in the post-security area, and offers a great menu, bar, and apron patio so you can watch the planes take off. There is also a small gift shop on-site.

Short-term parking costs $5 per day, but you'll have to call the airport ahead of time if you intend on parking there long-term. Plan on arriving at least 60 minutes before your flight so you have enough time to check in, move through security, and settle in before your flight.
