Flying to or from Qualicum Beach Airport

Qualicum Beach Airport is an extremely small airport, currently served by just two regional airlines: KD Air and Orca Airways. Sunwest Helicopters, which offers tours of Vancouver Island, is also based at the airport. Both KD Air and Orca Airways provide scheduled service to Vancouver International Airport, and the Qualicum Beach-Vancouver route is certainly the most popular one at the airport. KD Air also serves the nearby communities of Powell River and Texada Island.

Transportation Options

Qualicum Beach Airport is a tiny facility, so don't expect a wide range of transportation options for getting to Qualicum Beach or other nearby communities. You can certainly call a taxi when you land, although having your own car provides a lot more freedom when it comes to getting around the area. While there are no car rental agencies at the airport itself, if you choose to rent a car most will be willing to pick you up from the airport. The drive from the airport to Qualicum Beach itself takes about ten minutes, while to Parksville it is about 15 minutes.

Terminal Information

As a small airport, there simply is not much here in the way of amenities. The terminal itself is a small building with very basic services such as a waiting area and information board. However, one nice surprise is that there's a remarkably good restaurant serving excellent seafood dishes, desserts, and more. It even has an outdoor patio area where you can enjoy a great meal while watching the planes take off.

What to see and do in Qualicum Beach

Qualicum Beach and nearby Parksville are where city dwellers from nearby Vancouver and Victoria come to experience some fresh air and small-town tranquility. The beach itself is a postcard-perfect area and boasts gorgeous views of the Georgia Strait and distant mountains. There are some excellent hiking trails in the area lined by Coastal Douglas firs. Qualicum Beach also has a thriving arts and culture scene, with Village Theatre, Milner Gardens, and Old School House being the community's top cultural attractions. There are markets, fairs, and events throughout the year. As a popular tourist destination, there are plenty of hotels in the area, but be sure to book in advance to get a great deal.
