South Andros Airport: Cheap Flights, Tickets and Travel Deals

Whereas most visitors to the Bahamas spend much of their time at glitzy resorts and modern hotels on either New Providence or Grand Bahama, few manage to make it to Andros Island. While Andros Island is the largest island in the Bahamas, it is also the most sparsely populated. As a result, it is one of the best-preserved corners of the country and a paradise for anybody who wants to wander secluded beaches or see nature and wildlife that has been almost completely untouched by tourism or development.

South Andros Airport serves the southern part of Andros and is located in the tiny community of Congo Town. While there aren't many flights to South Andros Airport (or indeed to any airport on Andros Island), if you sign up for Price Alerts you can stay on top of any discounts that may be applied to routes to this idyllic Bahaman island.

Flying to or from South Andros Airport

South Andros Airport is a tiny airport used primarily by private aircraft. Currently the only airline operating out of San Andros Airport is Western Air, which offers two flights daily to Nassau. From Nassau you can grab a flight to anywhere else in the Bahamas or further afield. Be aware that Western Air refers to South Andros Airport as Congo Town.

Transportation Options

South Andros Airport doesn't really offer any amenities or transit options. If you want to get around the island you will need to arrange for transportation beforehand. Contact your hotel and see if they offer airport pickup. There are no car rental agencies at South Andros Airport. Many of the resorts on Andros Island are accessible only by boat, so a car may not be very useful anyway.

Terminal Information

South Andros Airport is a tiny airport with extremely limited amenities. There is a small building with a waiting area and pizza stall, but that's about it. However, when either landing at or taking off from South Andros Airport, you'll get astounding views of the turquoise sea, barrier reefs, and mangrove swamps.

What to see and do in South Andros

Andros Island is an undiscovered paradise and proof that even in one of the most touristed countries in the world it is still possible to find huge expanses of unspoiled beaches and pristine mangrove marshes. Mostly protected by West Side National Park, the island is home to the richest biodiversity in the Bahamas. Andros Island is also where you will find a high concentration of blue holes, which are any scuba diver's dream and have been featured by Jacques Cousteau and National Geographic over the years. The blue holes are also where the mythical Lusca, a half-octopus, half-shark creature supposedly lives. Andros Island is also home to the world's third-largest fringe barrier reef and the Tongue of the Ocean, a mile-deep area of the ocean that hosts a huge array of marine life. Finally, if you're looking for deserted stretches of pristine beaches, then you will find plenty of them on Andros Island. While less developed than the rest of the Bahamas, there are still plenty of hotels and resorts on Andros. Use Skyscanner to help find a great hotel on Andros Island for the perfect visit to paradise.
