Semarang Airport: Cheap Flights, Tickets and Travel Deals

Semarang is a major city in Indonesia and the capital of Central Java. Dotted with ornate temples and Dutch colonial buildings,  Semarang offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. The city is served by the Semarang Airport (officially the Ahmad Yani International Airport), which has flights to destinations throughout Indonesia. Transportation Options

There is a rapid bus line located about 100 metres from the Arrivals Gate. To get to it, you have to cross the railway tracks. Be advised that buses can get crowded. A better option may be to take a taxi. You will see taxi drivers in the reception area of the Arrivals Hall, although some taxi companies require you to walk to the taxi stand just outside of the Arrivals Hall. While it is hard to predict exact travel times, you can usually reach most central of the areas in about 20-40 minutes. Of course, if driving in Indonesia doesn't intimidate you, then renting a car certainly provides the most convenient way of getting around.

Terminal Information

The Semarang Airport is a former military base and is currently operating well beyond its capacity. Expect long lineups and large crowds when you're here. Traffic is also an issue to and from the airport, and you should schedule extra time to catch a flight. Despite those drawbacks, the terminal is generally clean and well-maintained, and there are plenty of food options. A new terminal is currently under construction. Built over a swamp, the terminal will be Indonesia's first 'floating terminal' and one of the most eco-friendly, with a mangrove forest located within. Once finished, the new terminal should alleviate the crowding issues currently besetting the existing terminal.

What to see and do in Semarang
