Sirnak Airport: Cheap Flights, Tickets and Travel Deals

One of the main gateways into Turkey's Sirnak province is Sirnak Airport (NKT), known formally as Sırnak Serafettin Elci Airport. The airport is located in the southeast quadrant of the country, close to the Syrian and Iraqi borders. The closest town is Cizre, located about 13 km away. It sits a little over an hour's drive from the province's capital, Sirnak.

If you're looking to visit Cizre or Sirnak, save money by booking the cheapest flights through Skyscanner. First, enter your starting location and travel dates into Skyscanner's flight search tool, then choose airport NKT as your destination. Compare all available airlines and flight routes, then book through Skyscanner with no added fees.

Airlines that Fly to Sirnak Airport

Two airlines currently operate out of Sirnak Airport. The first is Turkish Airlines, the country's flag carrier airline. Turkish Airlines flies to and from Istanbul Ataturk Airport (IST), Turkey's biggest airport. AnadoluJet, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, also operates out of NKT. AnadoluJet flies to and from Istanbul's other airport, Istanbul Sabiha Airport (SAW) and to and from Esenboga International Airport (ESB) in Ankara. Flights from Canada to Sirnak Airport will have a stop at one of these three airports.

Arriving at Sirnak Airport

Sirnak Airport has been operational since 2013 and consists of one passenger terminal. To fly into this airport, Canadians will need a valid passport and a visa. Due to the country's proximity to the Syrian border, all non-essential travel to Turkey is currently discouraged by the Canadian government.

The airport is located less than 15 minutes from Cizre by car. The ride to Sirnak is about 60 km and will take about an hour and fifteen minutes. If you take a taxi into town, always pay in Turkish Lira instead of using North American currencies or you'll likely be subject to an incorrect exchange rate.

Sirnak Airport Facilities

With only 3,500 square meters of floor space, Sirnak Airport's one terminal is very small. To get a sense of the size, it is about 150 times smaller than Canada's Toronto Pearson (YYZ) airport. As such, there are no amenities to speak of at Sirnak Airport. If you'll be spending a lot of time at the airport on a layover or before your return flight, it's best to bring refreshments and do your souvenir shopping outside of the airport.

What to See and Do in Cizre

Cizre has a large urban center with many shops and restaurants. Many of the restaurants in the area focus on delicious, authentic Turkish cooking. Egyptian and Mediterranean restaurants are also popular. The city is located along the banks of the Tigris River, a long river which stretches from Turkey to the Persian Gulf. This river is a nice spot to relax with a picnic.
