Melaka International Airport (MKZ) is a single-terminal airport situated 10 km away from the downtown core. Known for being small but mighty, this Malaysian airport provides friendly, efficient service to a handful of nearby cities. It's also a less crowded and faster alternative to the country's main gateway into the world, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. However, there are no direct flights to Canada from MKZ, and even its regional schedule is fairly limited.

Terminals at MKZ
There is one terminal at Melaka International Airport (MKZ). After undergoing a massive expansion in 2009, this newly-renovated terminal measures 75,000 square feet and can accommodate 1.5 million passengers annually. Previously, it could only host 30,000 travelers per year. The facility is known for being spotless, easy to navigate, and filled with excellent amenities.
Only three airlines are hosted by Melaka International Airport (MKZ): Firefly, Sky Aviation, and Wings Air. There is daily service available to Pekanbaru, Indonesia, alongside weekly flights to Medan, Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital. Since the terminal's recent expansion, it seems hopeful that more airline carriers will eventually be added to MKZ's roster. Until then, there are no non-stop trips available to Canada.
Melaka International Airport (MKZ) is praised by past travelers for its friendly, helpful staff, who provide top-rated customer service to everyone who steps inside this quiet airport. The property itself is wonderfully clean and well-maintained. However, despite its large size, this terminal still doesn't receive too many visitors. Indeed MKZ only hosted 58,703 passengers in 2016. Consequently, there are always plenty of parking spaces and the airport is never crowded, even during peak hours. Inside Melaka Airport, guests enjoy free wifi, gift shops, and several food outlets.
Transportation to Melaka
Taking a taxi is the easiest way to reach the city of Melaka from the airport. There's a taxi stand directly outside the terminal, so after grabbing your baggage, you can simply hop in a waiting vehicle. The trip into town should take about 20 minutes. To ensure a fair rate, make sure to negotiate your fare with the driver before departure. Public transportation isn't always reliable in Melaka and should generally be avoided.
