Loreto Airport: Cheap Flights, Tickets and Travel Deals

There's no shortage of tourist activity in Mexico, with major cities like Mexico City and Cancun flooded with tourists each year. If you want a great tourist experience without all the hustle and bustle of a big city, consider booking a flight to Loreto. With a population of under twenty thousand people, you'll enjoy a more personal and authentic Mexican experience when vacationing in Loreto.

The best way to travel to Loreto is by booking flights to Loreto International Airport (LTO), the city's main airport. To check for flight deals to Loreto, enter airport code LTO into Skyscanner's flight search as your destination, then choose your starting point and travel dates. You can filter and compare your results, then book through Skyscanner with no added fees.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Loreto

During the year, the temperatures in Loreto range from warm to quite hot with high humidity. Most of the year's rainfall is concentrated between August and September. The winter months also see a fair bit of precipitation but remain warm. Generally, tourists choose to visit between March and June, when the days are sunny and the weather is comfortable. However, if you're visiting the city for tourist fishing, you'll want to time your vacation to the fishing season: dorado, marlin, and sailfish are abundant in the summer and yellowtail are easy to catch in the winter.

Airlines that Fly to Loreto Airport

Loreto Airport is served by three airlines, two of which operate direct flights from North America to Loreto. Alaska Airlines flies to and from Los Angeles often. WestJet flies to and from one of Canada's biggest airports, located in Calgary. However, the service is only available seasonally, during the winter months.

Year-round, Calafia Airlines flies to four Mexican cities: Guaymas, Hermosillo, La Paz, and Tijuana. For a well-rounded trip, stop by one of these busier cities for a day or two on your way to Loreto. If you can't find direct flights from Canada to Loreto, you can also use these cities for a quick layover.

Arriving at Loreto Airport

Whether you're arriving from a domestic or an international location, you'll fly into Loreto Airport's one passenger terminal. The terminal is located about 5 km from the city's downtown core, or about a 15-minute ride by car. Currently, there are no public transportation links at the airport, so your transportation options are limited to taxis. Taxis in Loreto will often pick up other passengers until they are full. A one-way spot in a shared taxi will cost about $9 CAD.

If you want to travel freely throughout the city and throughout Mexico, renting a car is your best bet. Since the airport is quite small, book in advance to ensure availability on your travel dates. You can search and compare all available car rentals in Loreto with Skyscanner's car rental search tool.

Loreto Airport Facilities

As Loreto Airport's one passenger terminal is fairly small, it is not outfitted with many common airport amenities and conveniences. If you're at the airport on a long layover, you can enjoy one of the refreshment stands or shop for a small souvenir or two. The airport does not currently offer currency exchange services, V.I.P airport lounges, or free Wi-Fi.

What to See and Do in Loreto

Since the city is located on the coast of the Baja California Peninsula, many of the top tourist activities in Loreto involve the water. Fishing is a very popular activity - many local restaurants will even cook and serve you the fish you catch! Scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, and whale watching are other popular outdoor activities.

In the city sit seven historical monuments, the oldest of which was built in the 18th century. The most popular building to visit is the Mission of our Lady of Loreto, a now-closed Monqui mission church. The church features a clock tower with arched windows and lovely intricate detailing.
