What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport

Taxis can be found directly in front of the arrivals building. The ride to the Santa Lucia resort area is just an hour and a half and runs CA$70-CA$75. A chartered shuttle bus to the resort area is also available for guests who have a travel package.

Car hire is available with Cubacar, Rex, Havanautos, or Via Rent-A-Car located inside the airport. Rates start at CA$75 per day plus mandatory insurance, which runs about CA$20. Booking ahead of time is recommended especially during summers where demand can exceed supply.

As of May 2010, all foreigners travelling to Cuba must have medical insurance. Travellers may present proof of insurance or purchase a health plan at the airport.

Airport Facilities

The Ignacio Agramonte Airport has one runway, two terminals, and eight check-in counters. The airport offers both short and long-term parking. The main terminal is divided into two adjacent buildings — arrivals and departures. The arrivals area houses the baggage claim carousel, currency exchange kiosk, car hire desks, taxi stand, as well as immigration and customs.

The tourist help desk, Infotour, is in the Departures Gate Lounge. The Departures Gate Lounge also offers a snack and coffee bar, duty-free store, and smaller boutiques to purchase rum, cigars, and other souvenirs. The airport does not offer luggage lockers or Wi-Fi.
