Northwestern Air Lease is a regional carrier offering regularly scheduled and charter plane services from their base in Fort Smith, North West Territories, (NWT) Canada. Scheduled round trip service is available to Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Hay River, Yellowknife and Fort Chipewyan. Charter service is available throughout northern and western Canada.

The locally owned carrier has been in business for more than 40 years and operates BAe Jetstream turboprops on its regularly scheduled runs. The charter fleet is made up of a Beechcraft 99, an amphibious de Havilland Turbo Otter, a Cessna C206 Stationair, a Cessna 210 and a Cessna 185. With such a varied fleet, Northwestern Air Lease can provide service to major airports as well as to smaller bush landing strips and waterways. Prop planes travel lower and slower than jets, so sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Why Fly With Northwestern Air Lease

How to Check In

At Edmonton International Airport (YEG), the Northwestern Air Lease counter is on the arrivals level near the Domestic-International Flight Lounge. If your flight originates at Edmonton, just check in at the counter. Edmonton is a rather large airport so it's recommended that you check in at least 1.5 hours prior to your departure. If you are connecting from another airline, you must collect your bags and then recheck them at the Northwestern Air Lease counter. The other destinations have smaller airports with easy to find check in counters, but you should still arrive at least an hour before your flight.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Baggage allowance depends on the type of plane you are booked on. Everything is based on weight. The BAe Jetstreams each carry around 19 passengers, so one carry-on and one checked bag, or two check bags is the norm. The combined weight limit is 22 kilograms with 2.14 CAD charged for each kilogram over. On the smaller craft, such as the de Havilland Turbo Otter, the maximum baggage weight allowance is 22 kilograms. No additional weight is allowed. Charter flights may make exceptions.

Seating - Leg Room, Choosing Seats

The configuration of the BAe Jetstream is a two-seat row on one side of the plane and a row of single seats on the other. The smaller craft have more flexible options, especially flying into the smaller water and land strips. Leg room on the Jetstream is compatible with most carriers using the same aircraft and mixed on the smaller flights. Seating is usually assigned at the counter.

Booking Fees

In addition to the ticket cost some additional fees you may see include the Nav Canada Fee, Airport Improvement Fees, Terminal Fees and Security Fees. The Nav Canada Fee is charged by some airports for air navigation services. Edmonton International Airport charges all of these fees, while some airports charge none.
