Interjet is a low-cost Mexican airline headquartered in Mexico City with an extensive domestic and international network of routes. It operates chartered and scheduled flights throughout Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, and North America. The airline's route network is further expanded through codeshare agreements with Iberia, American Airlines, LATAM Chile, and LATAM Brasil. Interjet is a particularly popular airline among recreational travellers such as surfers due to a highly accommodating baggage policy for surfboards and other types of sports gear.

Founded in 2005, Interjet quickly placed orders for numerous Airbus A320 aircraft in order to build its fleet. In 2008, the airline took a vacant slot at the Mexico City International Airport and established a network of domestic flights. Interjet's first international route was established in 2011 between the Mexico City International Airport and the La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City. The following year, Interjet began flying its first routes to the United States and its first route to Costa Rica. From 2013 to the present day, Interjet has expanded its routes to existing international destination countries and begun flying to Colombia, Cuba, Peru, and Canada as well.

Why Fly with Interjet

Loyalty Programs, Discounts and Miles promotions

Interjet has a unique loyalty program known as Club Interjet. Rather than accumulating miles, as on most airlines, Club Interjet members get all of their Interjet purchases converted into electronic cash. Any time you make a purchase with Interjet, you simply have to enter your Club Interjet membership number in order to accumulate cash or points. This cash goes into your Interjet eWallet and can then be used to pay for flight upgrades and other exclusive offers and deals such as outlet presales.

Club Interjet is free to join and allows you to begin earning cash when flying on an Optima or a Priority fare. For $25 USD you can become a Club Interjet Premium member, which will allow you to earn cash and points on a Light fare as well. Families may want to consider signing up for Club Interjet Familiar, which costs $25 USD for the first family member and $12 USD for each additional family member. Club Interjet Familiar makes it easy to accumulate the purchases of each family member in the same eWallet.

Non-members who are also looking for more affordable ways to fly with Interjet can take advantage of various discounts and promotions offered through the Interjet website.

How to Check In, Seating Assignment, Leg Room and Other Fees

While you always have the option of checking in for your Interjet flight when you arrive at the airport, you can also check in at your convenience ahead of time online.

Online check-in with Interjet is available 48 hours to one hour before a domestic flight and 24 hours to two hours before an international flight. It can be completed through a browser on your computer or mobile device or through the Interjet app. Once you've completed checking in, you'll have the option of printing your boarding pass or of simply displaying your boarding pass from your Interjet or Wallet app as you pass through security and the boarding gate. If you don't have any bags to check, then you can simply head straight through security when you arrive at the airport. If you do have checked baggage, then you'll just have to make a stop at the baggage drop counter first.

When flying on a Light fare, Interjet seating assignments are assigned by the system but can be changed for an additional $7 CAD. An Optima fare allows passengers to choose their seat free of charge from the 3rd row up, while priority fare allows passengers to choose any seat on the aircraft, including in the first and second row. Light fare passengers rarely find it necessary to change their assigned seat, as all of Interjet's aircraft provide 34 inches of pitch between seats. This is the most amount of leg room that you will find on any airline.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

Passengers travelling on any fare to any Interjet destination may bring up to 10 kg of carry-on baggage into the cabin of the aircraft divided into a maximum of two pieces. For example, you may choose to bring one small piece of baggage and one backpack. Carry-on baggage cannot exceed dimensions of 55x40x25 cm.

The number of checked bags that you may bring onto a flight depends on your fare type and itinerary. On North American flights (flights between Mexico, the United States, and Canada), Interjet Light passengers must pay $34 CAD per checked bag, Optima passengers are allowed one free checked bag weighing up to 25 kg, and Priority passengers are allowed two free checked bags each weighing up to 25 kg. On flights to and from Interjet's Latin American destinations, Light passengers can bring one free checked bag weighing up to 25 kg, Optima passengers can bring two free checked bags each weighing up to 25 kg, and Priority passengers can bring three free checked bags each weighing up to 25 kg.

Passengers have the option of paying $34 CAD for each additional piece of luggage up to a maximum of five bags. Interjet also allows passengers to bring sports equipment such as golf gear or a surfboard as part of their check-in baggage allowance at no extra cost as long as the equipment does not exceed 30 kg in weight or 350 cm in length.

Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals

Interjet does not provide information on in-flight entertainment, but passengers do report that certain Interjet aircraft do come with screens where you can watch movies and TV shows or listen to music, especially on longer flights. Interjet aircraft are also fitted with a unique take-off and landing camera which allows passengers to watch the plane take off and land in real time.

Interjet provides passengers with a wide selection of sweet and salty snacks on board. Depending on flight duration, the airline provides sandwiches as well. Every Interjet flight also comes with courtesy beverages, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service guidelines

Infants up to two years of age and over 10 days old on the day of travel do not require a seat and can travel on the lap of an adult. Passengers do, however, need to inform Interjet about the accompanying infant at the time of booking so that they may receive a boarding pass. Any child over two years of age needs an assigned seat and a ticket.

If you have a child over the age of five and less than 18 years old who needs to travel alone, then Interjet can provide them with unaccompanied minor service. This service is mandatory for children under 12 and optional for children over 12. Interjet will ensure that your child is accompanied throughout the boarding procedure, for the duration of the flight, and until they are delivered safely to their destination.

Pet Policy

Interjet has a very friendly pet policy which allows small cats and dogs to travel along with you in the cabin of the plane. Pets must be carried inside of a container no bigger than 40x30x22 cm in dimensions, and the total combined weight of the animal and the container may not exceed 5 kg. An additional $34.00 CAD will be charged for pets travelling in the cabin, as they do not count as carry-on baggage. Any pets that weigh over 5 kg and need to travel as checked baggage can be substituted for a checked bag and can, therefore, fly at no extra cost as long as you have not exceeded your baggage limit. However, a $7 CAD fee will be charged for every kilogram over 25 kg.
