Airport Facilities

La Romana Airport started out as an airstrip for private planes and jets. Today, it has a civil aviation terminal as well as a modern, well equipped commercial terminal. The four gates are used for both arrivals and departures, with all passengers using the same air-conditioned waiting areas. No smoking is allowed in the terminal, but an outside veranda is available for those that want to light up. You'll find duty-free shops, sundry stores, food and beverage outlets, an information desk and a bank. Accepted currency in La Romana is the Dominican peso or the US Dollar.

Car rental desks are next to baggage claim. Some car outlets require advance reservations, so you might want to book ahead. Public transportation from the airport is limited, so a taxi is your best bet for the ten-kilometre, 15-minute trip into central La Romana. Fees are set and payable by cash. The fare into La Romana runs about $30 CAD. A price chart for the various resort areas is also available at the airport.
