Getting to Freeport Airport

You'll find flights from Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver to Freeport Airport, all with at least one connection, usually in Fort Lauderdale or Miami, Florida. American Airlines is the primary carrier, often using codeshare partner airlines to complete the route. A codeshare is where you buy a ticket on one airline but you fly one or more segments on a different carrier. When you pull up your flight choices, the codeshare partners, if any, are listed under the itinerary. Examples of codeshares on American include PSA Airlines, American Eagle, WestJet, Silver Airways, and Bahamas Air. Delta Air, which also codeshares, is another flight option from Canada. Fort Lauderdale is a major cruise ship port, with many ships arriving and departing on Saturday or Sunday. Weekend seats tend to be more expensive, so try and fly midweek.

Airport Facilities

Freeport Airport is on the small side but has two passenger terminals, one for international flights, the other for domestic. Both are adjacent and within walking distance of the other. Each terminal has its own ATMs and shops, with the major restaurant and bar in the international terminal. Terminals have their own baggage claim and transportation hubs right outside the door. It's only about five kilometres from the airport to the downtown core. Taxis are the most common means of transport, with the 10-minute trip , running about $20.00 CAD. Most taxi drivers carry a rate card that you can take a look at. Rental car desks are available in each terminal. Many hotels offer airport transfers, either free or at low cost. Accepted currency is the Bahamian dollar. Most locations take credit cards.
